You will be able to learn loads from Ann-Marie Burton from Momstown.ca at both the Winning Websites event on April 28th and at the Women in Biz Conference on May 30 – Ann-Marie is a panelists on the Business Planning session.
1. Tell us about your business.
momstown.ca is a national network of influencers and bloggers with real life neighbourhood connections. momstown’s #1 focus is to connect neighbourhood moms and establish real life supportive communities and provide 24/7 online support to our mom members. momstown has a strong focus on literacy and early learning and uses a themed educational curriculum in our events (20+ monthly in each chapter) and to align our online content. momstown generates advertising revenue from our integrated work with brands to introduce compelling and relevant products to our audience and membership.
2. Other than being an entrepreneur, who are you? Tell us about yourself.
I’m a mom of 3 kids age five and under and married for 10 years ago to a supportive man who I call the ‘momstown muscle’. Too busy for hobbies anymore but I used to really like to read and cook – now I count the internet as reading and treat my crockpot as a member of the family. I am a passionate mom who’s high on literacy, learning and community building.
3. What motivated you to go into business for yourself?
Initial motivation was the need for something ‘more’ in my post-career stay-at-home-mom life. We had a good idea which made sense, appeared marketable and I didn’t think it would cost a lot to launch (ha ha).
The better question is what motivated you to STAY in business for yourself once the reality set in? To that I would answer pride, passion and purpose.
4. How do you overcome challenges and obstacles in your business?
Old fashioned optimism and positive thinking.
5. What are your greatest strengths as an entrepreneur?
Tenacity and Focus. Add in strategic thinking (you need to know your direction if you’re going to run blind sometimes) and the ability to multi-task like an octopus!
