Workshop Description: Every business needs an online presence. If someone can’t find you on the internet, you are not in business. We live in a world of immediate, accessible information, and customers want it.
So give it to them.
Turns out a blogging platform called WordPress has become an incredible way to build an effective, creative and customized site. All you need to get started is a glass of wine and a couple of people who know exactly what they are doing.
Join us to see how easy it is to look like a rock star on the net.
Building Winning Websites will help you better understand what to look for when building or re-designing your web site.
The workshop will cover:
1. Current research and trends about what women want when visiting a web site.
2. The elements of an effective website.
3. The power and benefits of WordPress.
4. The integration of social media into a website.
5. Maximising the SEO on a site.
** Judy is very generously offering a chance to win a WordPress website valued at $1000. The $1000 can either go towards updating and improving your current WordPress website, migrating and updating your old website to a WordPress platform, or the building of a totally new WordPress site. All registered participants are eligible to win.**
Please note: the credit will go towards the building of a WordPress site, and it does not include web hosting fees or domain registration fees.
Judy Ranieri is a Mommy Geek. If she spent as much time exercising as she does keeping up with the latest and greatest in tech, she would be a size -2 and weigh under 100 pounds! Unfortunately there are not enough hours in a day to do both! After completing her degree in Computer Science, Judy worked for IBM for 15 years. Frustrated with trying to find the right balance between work and family, Judy took a leave of absence from IBM and never looked back. Judy has spent the past 12 years building a number of small businesses. She is the author of the book Homework Help 4 Kids: Cool Internet Sites That Make Learning Fun!, founder of KapableKidz – a company that provides supplementary computer based programs to elementary schools, and most recently, founder of MiBec Communications – a company that provides Simple Websites that are Simply Affordable.
When Judy is not wearing her entrepreneurial hat, she is spending time with her family and training for the Joe’s Team triathlon, held every summer in support of Cancer research at Princess Margaret Hospital in Toronto.
Ann-Marie Burton is the founder of momstown.ca and proud to have grown momstown from a ‘moms group’ in 2007 into a national network of influencers and bloggers with real-life neighbourhood connections and the host of hundreds of monthly community events for moms.
As the mother of 3 children under age 5, Ann-Marie intimately understands the “mom consumer” (she is one of them!). Her passion comes from building a dynamic business model, inspiring other entrepreneurial momstown mamas and developing a national momstown platform to connect and support neighbourhood moms across Canada.
. Tamara McPherson
A happily married mother of 4 wonderful girls who also runs a very successful online parenting resource website. Her outgoing personality and passion for life has blossomed into WonderMoms.ca, bringing moms and dads alike together with todays most up to date trends. A social media enthusiast, who has used her knowledge and talents to create an amazing world for developing online connections and increasing her ROI.
Leslie Hughes is the Principal of PUNCH!media. A passionate follower of all things media related, Leslie has over 13 years of sales and marketing experience showcasing brands such as Weddingbells Magazine, Fashion Magazine, Visa Canada, Novartis and Prozac. Leslie is a graduate of the University of Ottawa (B.A. Psychology), and proudly has her Master’s Certification in Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP).
After a successful career focused on fundraising and community relations, Susan went back to school to earn her degree in Fine Arts with a specialty in photography. Her photography, which is primarily documentary, was recognized in national campaigns in Japan and her work was use by the Japanese Tourism Board for their 2005 promotional campaign. At Antares Design, Susan uses her past experiences to the benefit of the client. She has a knack for understanding what people need and listening to what they want. Susan’s favourite part of her job is meeting with clients to brainstorm an approach to marketing their business through graphics.
Alexandria Durrell is not a social media guru, ninja nor expert, but she IS the very social media-savvy owner of Clippo and the force behind the very popular #SoConnected Twitter parties. She’d like to think her two honours degrees (English/Sociology and Business) prepared her for the ride she’s currently taking but that’s not the case. Jumping into the realm of entrepreneurship and testing the social media waters early on did so.
